Schliemann III is an attempt to create spaces for the experience of the audience, that can re-examine our perception of history. The starting point is the reconstruction of a plan of Troy, which—with its nine discovered layers—was taken from Heinrich Schliemann's diary-like account of the excavations at Troy between 1871 and 1873.In the warehouses of the Epidaurus Festival in Piraeus, several Greek voices, performers, and musicians interact with a disparate textual and musical material consisting of quasi-ancient intonations and text fragments from the Iliad, excerpts from Les Troyennes, an opera by Hector Berlioz, as well as folk songs, electronic sound samples, and pre-recorded tracks.

In the warehouses of the Epidaurus Festival in Piraeus 260, several Greek voices, performers, and musicians interact with a disparate textual and musical material consisting of quasi-ancient intonations and text fragments from the Iliad, excerpts from Les Troyennes, an opera by Hector Berlioz, as well as folk songs, electronic sound samples, and pre-recorded tracks.

This results in several distinct "excavations", because this performance with its sources not only refers to Heinrich Schliemann's attempt to locate the remains of Troy, but has also taken on various site-specific forms in the past: an initial staged installation by Michael Simon and Heiner Goebbels called Newton's Casino, which premiered in 1990 at the Theater am Turm in Frankfurt. And a realization entitled Ergotaxia Schliemann, created 1997 in cooperation with Diplous Eros in Athens: all this leads us now to Schliemann III.

In addition Heiner Goebbels also created a purely acoustic, award-winning radio composition Schliemann's Radio in 1993. In cooperation with some of those performers involved at the time, Heiner Goebbels and Michael Simon will now develop a new attempt to unfold the idea of interpenetrating historical layers into a parcours through the warehouses in Piraeus.9 September 20269:00 pm
